Open center or closed center?
Match the manifold to your tractor's hydraulics.
Open center: the pump flows oil all the time and it returns to the tank when no valve is working. Common on compact, utility and value-priced tractors.
Closed center: the pump holds pressure and only flows oil when a valve opens (pressure-compensated or load-sensing hydraulics). Common on larger, higher-horsepower tractors, and John Deere has used it on its row-crop tractors since the 1960s. Age alone doesn't tell you which you have.
